Our approach to spaying and neutering
We balance preventing unwanted litters with attention to each dog’s growth and long-term health. Our usual timing for spaying or neutering is around one year of age, with six months as our minimum and our veterinarian guiding each dog’s care.
A puppy adopted before one year of age may or may not already be spayed or neutered. If the procedure has not yet been completed, adoption includes a spay/neuter contract requiring it to be completed by 18 months of age. We explain each puppy’s current status and the contract requirements before adoption.
